On my way home this weekend I took a chance and stopped in Kennebunkport to grab some donuts from Satellite Donuts to share with family. I thought they were great being baked instead of fried with fun toppings. You get a free donut with iced coffee too.
On Friday I went to Portland to check out the new Forage Market location on Washington Avenue. I got the forage bagel sandwich on a salt bagel. The location is nice and open with lots of seating. You can buy fresh flowers too. I’m excited to go back and try more of their bagels. Their cold brew was very delicious too.
After my hike I went to Kittery to grab some food before heading back home. I stopped at Lil’s Cafe. I got the pesto mozzarella with tomato on the olive sourdough. Very good and filling! I had wanted to try one of their donuts too. It was light with a good sugar coating. I thought it was interesting how they sell reusable straws to prevent waste and do recycling and composting when you throw out your trash. I need to remember to bring one of my reusable straws with me.
I ended up in the mood for crêpes again and this time I went to Portland to finally get to go to Sip of Europe. They have sweet and savory crêpes along with coffee drinks. I went with the Italian fiesta with turkey which was a good lunch. Iced coffee was good too. I like a place I can just sit and relax and enjoy my meal. I’d like to come back when I’m in the mood for something sweet.
Today I ventured out and grabbed lunch in Portland. I decided to brave the construction and found a parking spot nearby to enjoy some food at Terlingua. I liked the feel of the restaurant and the copper tables. I got the pork shoulder sandwich with kettle chips. I liked the mix of slaw and pork that had a good balance and not too tangy. I want to go back again to try something from the dinner menu.
After lunch I wanted something sweet. I decided to go to monument square in Portland and check out One Six Green where they are offering coffee in a cone. I like to try unique things so why not. The shot of espresso was good, melting the chocolate inside the cone. They offer breakfast and lunch too making it a good place to grab food and coffee.
Today I woke up with a stiff neck so I wasn’t up for much but I still wanted to get out of the house. I decided to travel to Westbrook today. My first stop was at Big Fin Poké, a Hawaiian style restaurant. It reminded me a little of Chipotle where you pick what you want for ingredients. I got the poké bowl with sushi rice, shrimp mixed with spicy aioli, corn and crispy wonton strips. I wasn’t sure what to go with but it did taste good.
I walked over to the new coffee and bookstore Quill Books and Beverage. It was a large space with a nice staff. The book selection was interesting and in categories to make it easy to find what you may like. I got a cold brew with a brownie. They have free WiFi and beer too. Seemed like a good hangout place and saw they will be offering board game nights.
I had plans to check out an exhibit on Monday but oops winter hours it wasn’t open. Oh well. Next time. Instead I decided to get some walking in and check out a few places I’ve never been. It’s like I’m looking for my favorites and conquering my fear of new places.
My first stop was at Slab. I heard they had good pizza and yes it was delicious. The sauce wasn’t heavy and the dough was chewy. They even had blue cheese to dip it in. I tend to be a ranch fan but that was good. It was interesting to see the space where the Portland public market used to be years ago. I’d like to go back to Slab and try the muffuletta sandwich.
I took a walk after pizza time and got myself a cold brew from Arabica Coffee Co. I’ve probably walked by this a million times but have never stopped in. The coffee was good and the place looked like a nice place to chill.
After walking around Portland I went to Tony’s Donut Shop. I feel like there are too many places I’ve passed by that I have never stopped at. I got the chocolate glazed. It tasted good like it was freshly baked and I was surprised at the selection available in the afternoon like they bake extra to meet demand. If you are craving donuts it would be a good place to stop to get your fill.
I decided to walk off my donut at Mackworth Island in Falmouth. It’s one my favorite loop trails. I was so happy the snow had melted off the trail. Despite the wind it was a good walk listening to the Ologies podcast.
I can’t wait for Spring. But alas that won’t be happening for awhile. So to pass time while I wait, I will continue wandering trying new things.
Today I went to Omi’s coffee shop that moved to South Portland. They have yummy homemade poptarts! I wish I had ventured upstairs to check out the seating upstairs.
I went back to Portland and checked out Flea for All on Congress Street that sells antiques and unique finds. I feel like most of the places I’ve been going to have all moved location and I’m checking out the place again like it’s new to me. I liked looking at all the cool things.
The highlight of my day was visiting the Portland Museum of Art. They had an art in bloom series where local florist did arrangements based on artwork. I thought it was cool to see and something free to do on a Friday. I realized I hadn’t been in awhile and was fun to check out all four floors. On the fourth floor there were wood carvings done by Bernard Langlais, an artist from Maine. I’ve always admired his work so that was a treat to see.
