Wandering

Yesterday I was in Biddeford and grabbed a Caesar salad from the new place on Alfred Street called Part & Parcel. Wow. Inside was so nice with fresh vegetables. It’s right near Suger and Biscuits & Company. It’s nice to see businesses in Biddeford like this revitalizing this mill town as a destination for food and fun.

After my errands were done I went to Portland to scout out something I saw on instagram. I like trying random things and this fit the bill. Curlio’s Creamery at 94 Commercial Street has these crazy fish shaped cones filled with soft serve. It was really hot so I was quick to snap a picture and start eating. I want to go back to try their Needham’s ice cream. I’ve never seen that as ice cream.

I was surprised when I got asked by the local radio station Q97.9 to use my photo. It was cool to be mentioned on the radio. I joked with my friends I was famous. http://wjbq.com/tags/curlios-creamery/

Take a Hike

I’ve been really wanting to build my endurance with hiking. I have a goal to visit all the National Parks and want to be able to do a few hikes when I go. Today I went to Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal that is close by. The mountain really isn’t that big at 407 elevation but to get to the summit it is steep. It’s the one thing I’m trying to improve on so its good practice. I was slow but did make my way to the top and took another path down. I’ll going to try going to practice and see if it gets easier.

I got to spend some time with my sister just the two of us. We decided to start with checking out Cape Whoopies that just opened in South Portland. It’s partnered with Rwanda Bean Coffee so you can grab a coffee and a delicious whoopie pie or two. I have to say I’m sorta a connoisseur of whoopie pies having attended the Whoopie Pie Festival up north. I tried the strawberry chocolate whoopie pie and oh my it was so good. The cake was so moist and I liked the frosting where it wasn’t too sweet. I’d definitely get one again. The nitro coffee from Rwanda was so creamy in taste you didn’t need cream added to it.

After we picked up whoopie pies with extra to share with family later, we took a short drive to Fort Williams. I think it’s good to be familiar with what’s near you because there are a lot of beautiful places in Maine. We grabbed lunch at Bite Into Maine and enjoyed the lobster BLTs. The bread was so good! It was a great treat to enjoy with Portland Headlight in view with a whoopie pie for dessert. The lobster rolls served by the food truck looked good too.

I was starving after doing yard work and wanted to not cook. I drove to Portland. The first place was closed due to needing ice and ice cream! So after driving around I decided to go to Tu Casa on Washington Avenue. Its a Salvadoran restaurant serving various dishes with chicken, beef, seafood and vegetable. I tried the enchiladas Salvadorena that was very tasty and a nice balance in flavors. The staff was polite and I saw others getting the burritos that looked huge. When I had mentioned I had gone there to grab an early dinner others voiced their opinion of their place that they like going there so made me confident I had made a good choice.

Today I ventured out and grabbed lunch in Portland. I decided to brave the construction and found a parking spot nearby to enjoy some food at Terlingua. I liked the feel of the restaurant and the copper tables. I got the pork shoulder sandwich with kettle chips. I liked the mix of slaw and pork that had a good balance and not too tangy. I want to go back again to try something from the dinner menu.

After lunch I wanted something sweet. I decided to go to monument square in Portland and check out One Six Green where they are offering coffee in a cone. I like to try unique things so why not. The shot of espresso was good, melting the chocolate inside the cone. They offer breakfast and lunch too making it a good place to grab food and coffee.

Soft Serve

Over the weekend we promised my niece some ice cream and had to go get some. We decided to check out Lib’s Dairy Treats. My niece and sister enjoyed the twist with jimmies while I got the twist chocolate and vanilla with the birthday cake dip coating. They had some yummy choices including cherry and butterscotch dip for your soft serve which I hadn’t seen before. It’s cash only there so be prepared. I want to try the Tony’s stuffed with soft serve donut sometime that they are selling.
